CLASSICS TAKE BERMUDA BY STORM
With an earlier October event this year the Canadian Classics roared back to action at Bermuda’s World Rugby Classic. The squad went 2-1 after scintillating wins vs Classic Lions & Classic Italy and fell narrowly to Argentina by a score of 7-10.
Special thanks to sponsors Banyan Risk Ltd, Onni Group, and as always, the LUMM.
CLASSIC WOMEN ENJOY TRIUMPHANT RETURN
After a 15 year hiatus the Canadian Classics Women’s rugby program returned with a bang in St. John’s, NL, to support the re-emerging Rock Senior Women’s representative program. CANADIAN CLASSICS MAKE PODIUM AT WPFGS
The 2022 World Police & Fire Games ran from July 20-28 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and the Classics are proud to have sponsored 2 x women’s rugby sevens teams that both achieved podium finishes:
Canada East (Toronto) = Silver Medalists, Women’s Rugby Sevens
Canada West (Calgary) = Bronze Medalists, Women’s Rugby Sevens
Both teams were coached by Classics Executive Director Darrin Chaplin, Alberta Sheriff Brent Wood, and managed by Calgary’s Robert MacKenzie. Canada West featured former Canadian Internationals Marie-Eve Brindamour, Heather Jacues, and Ashely Snider (Canada U20). Congratulations everyone on your outstanding results!
COWTOWN’S CAN-AM ANOTHER CLASSICS SUCCESS!
This year’s Classic Can Am Summer Series was a double-header held in Calgary, Alberta, and was another huge triumph for our program.
In match #1 the Canadian Classics “A” side staged a brave defensive stand on their goal line to hold a rampaging Classic Calgary Mavericks squad to a respectable 30-30 draw at full time. Hometown fans were delighted with the contest & cheered for both sides. Rugby was the clear winner.
Match #2 pitted the Canadian Classics vs a dangerous American Barbarians side. Although the Barbarians showed flashes of promise throughout the match, the Classics’ depth and experience proved too much for the tourists and saw the home team through to a 37-5 victory.
Off the pitch the Classics found time to visit Banff National Park, celebrate their results at the world-famous Calgary Stampede, and provided some legacy gifts to help support Calgary youth rugby!
